Steve Hartwick and Rick Sutton (First's USA Regional Missions Leader), on behalf of First Baptist Church Corpus Christi, delivered a message of hope and encouragement along with a check for $25,000 to Calvary Baptist Church in Petal, Mississippi on October 8, 2006.

Rick and Steve also made a promise to return with a work crew and more funds to help them get back on their feet. They were encouraged to hear that there were people who are still praying for their recovery and willing to come and help.

As you can see, the front and back of the church were blown out by a tornado that was spawned from Hurricane Katrina. As indicated by the dates on the photos, no progress or repairs have been made 13 months after the storm due to issues with the insurance company.

Approximately 50,000 people have moved into the Hattiesburg/Petal area since the storm and Calvary's membership is growing.

At this point, plans are still underway as to the projects future teams will undertake. Possible projects include helping to tear down the existing church building or finishing out the upstairs (installing walls to divide the area into separate rooms) area of the Family Life Center where the youth meet.
