We partnered
with the Tree of Life Ministries, Uganda for this trip. The Tree of
Life Ministries is an indigenous ministry organization in Uganda that
was formed two years ago. They have their own board of directors and
are registered with the government. All of our planning, operations,
and budget expenditures were under their supervision and cooperation.
We planned for
1,000 to attend the Kakombo Bible Conference. We had 1200 adults attend,
plus 800 children. We fed over 2,000 for five days. We provided travel
for 1,200 from 20 districts of Uganda, some as far away the islands and
northwestern Uganda. There were also men from Kenya and Sudan present.
We conducted pastor’s studies, women’s studies, men’s studies, youth
studies, and VBS for the children. The team stayed in tents for five
nights.
We traveled in
the afternoon to an area called Top Hills. One of the pastors lives
there and has been teaching children (180) in his home and in an
adjacent building. The pastor said that 92% of the students are
orphans. We did evangelism in and around his home and saw 91 adults and
about 100 children come to faith in Jesus Christ. We started a new
church on the third day, the Top Hills Baptist Church, with these new
believers. We provided $2500 for the pastor to purchase land and
construct a building for the new church to meet in. In addition to
this, we provided funds for constructing two other churches, and
purchased land for a seminary and a church in the city of Iganga
(population 400,000). We purchased 300 Bibles and distributed them to
pastors and church leaders that can read and did not have a Bible or to
those who’s Bibles were falling apart with use (some only had pieces of
a Bible).
The team
traveled below the equator to a district called Rakia, in southern
Uganda. We conducted VBS in the Ssange Community Church and visited the
Kukuto Community Church. This is an area of Uganda that has a high
concentration of AIDS. They estimate that 80% of the children in this
district are orphans and that 80% of the adults are HIV positive. The
Gaba Community Church in Kampala supports these two churches and
schools. We visited some of the homes and prayed with the people.

The team also
visited the island of Chagway and Bethany Village. This is another one
of the church/schools that the Gaba Church supports. The church has
developed a model at Bethany Village of dormitories for mission teams,
house parent homes for 15 orphans, school and church with a farm. It is
quickly becoming self-supporting with the farm.
We would like
to go back to Uganda the last two weeks in July 2006. They would like
for us to travel to three different locations for the Bible conferences.
It will be cheaper for a small team to travel to three areas of Uganda
than for us to provide travel for hundreds of them to travel to one
location. They would like for us to have Bible conferences (pastors,
men, women, youth, and VBS) in Bugiri (eastern Uganda, near Kenya), Top
Hills (central Uganda), and on one if the central the islands in Lake
Victoria. |
